Unagipie Factory

Unagipie Factory

< Unagipie Factory >

The signature souvenir of Shizuoka Prefecture, Unagipie Pastries are sweet, crispy confections flavored with eel (or 'unagi' in Japanese), which is a Shizuoka specialty. Hand-made by Unagipie Artisans who produce roughly 200,000 pieces of pastry a day, Unagipie Pastries are known throughout Japan for their great taste and the unique concept of infusing a sweet snack with 'unagi' extract.

The Unagipie Factory was founded in 2005 on the western side of Hamamatsu City. Here, visitors can see how Unagipie Pastries are made, with more than 655,000 people visiting every year.

In 2010, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's Industrial Tourism Promotion Council recognized the Unagipie Factory as a model of a successful industrial tourist facility.

Unagipie Factory

On the first floor, you'll be guided through the preparation and finishing stages of Unagipie Pastry dough—using illustrations, since the details of the process are carefully guarded trade secrets! But you can then watch the baking process through small windows in the 10-meter-long oven!

The second floor reveals the automated wrapping system used to ensure every Unagipie Pastry stays secure and fresh. Afterwards, visit our theater to see a 10-minute movie where our mascot, Una-kun, an apprentice Unagipie Artisan, introduces some little-known secrets behind Unagipie Pastries.

Unagipie Factory

There are three different ways you can tour the factory: you can take a self-guided tour, a guided tour with a concierge, or a 'Smile Tour,' where a guide styled as a detective will take you around to uncover all the mysteries of the Unagipie Pastry process.

For either the guided tour or the Smile Tour, please be sure to make advance reservations by email (see below).

< Cafe, Shop & More! >

The factory-direct shop on the first floor sells all kinds of Unagipie Pastries and a number of special sweets from Shunkado. You can also find new ways of savoring Unagipie Pastries at the Unagipie Cafe, which offers original, hand-made dishes constructed around Unagipie Pastries.
Next to the cafe, try taking a photo beside the massive Unagipie Monument—450 times the size of a regular Unagipie Pastry!

Other fun features

< Unagipie Cafe Grand Reopening >

The redesigned Unagipie Cafe opened on July 25, 2015. Upon reopening, there was a big new feature on the menu: '4 Kinds of Unagipie with Melting Chocolate,' a dessert dish that proved overwhelmingly popular at the limited-time Unagipie Cafe Tokyo, which opened in 2015 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Unagipie Factory. Be sure to drop by!
